About the role

We’re looking for a commercially minded professional who thrives at the intersection of strategy, financial analysis, and delivery in a fast‑evolving energy environment. You’ll bring strong commercial acumen and the ability to assess investment opportunities and manage business performance - translating complex financial, risk, and governance considerations into clear, well‑structured recommendations.

 

 Key responsibilities include:

  • Assessing the commercial viability of investment opportunities, including financial modelling, and drafting investment/board papers.
  • Business planning and budgeting, including forecasting key financial metrics and analysing commercial risks.
  • Monitoring the financial performance of the business and providing insights into key performance drivers.
  • Identifying opportunities for process improvement, enhanced governance, and stronger financial controls.

 

This role would also support the team on:

  • Product development and management of Ausgrid’s Energy Storage as a Service offering.
  • Managing offtake tenders, leading contractual negotiations with commercial partners, and overseeing the delivery of strategic projects.
  • Strategic engagement and advocacy with industry, regulators, and market bodies to drive positive customer, commercial, and industry outcomes.

You will play a key role in delivering advanced financial and commercial insights to support strategic decision-making across the business. You’ll collaborate closely with internal stakeholders and external advisors to evaluate investment opportunities, assess financial viability, and contribute to business planning and performance monitoring.

 

Skills and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, commerce, economics, engineering, or related field.
  • 3–5 years’ experience in management consulting and/or financial modelling, ideally in energy, infrastructure, or renewables but we are open to industry.
  • The core tech skills for this role include:
    • Advanced capabilities in excel and financial modelling.
    • Non-essential but well regarded are basic programming skills, SQL and databases.
  • Strong understanding of valuation techniques and scenario analysis.
  • Experience in planning, reporting, budgeting, and forecasting.
  • Knowledge of the National Electricity Market (NEM) and energy regulation.
  • Experience in infrastructure finance and equity investment. Familiarity with complex regulatory and competitive environments.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
