As the Senior Business Development Manager – Grid Connections & HV Infrastructure (Hunter), you'll be responsible for originating, qualifying and securing new business opportunities across:
- Customer grid connections
- HV infrastructure projects
- Substations and switching stations
- Network augmentation projects
- Contestable and ASP works
- Feeders and network assets up to 132kV
- Related electrification, BESS and EV charging opportunities where connection and network expertise is critical
You'll work closely with customers, developers, consultants, EPC contractors, utilities and infrastructure owners to understand project requirements, influence project outcomes early, and position PLUS ES as a trusted delivery partner.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Lead, engage, negotiate and win grid connection projects from 11kv -132kv including bus depot, data centre and other types of connections.
- Generate and develop new business opportunities across grid connections and HV infrastructure markets.
- Coordinate internal stakeholders through proposal development, pricing, governance and contract execution.
- Maintain a strong pipeline of opportunities and forecast accuracy through effective CRM management.
- Ensure successful transition from sales to delivery through clear scope definition and handover processes.
- Leverage existing industry relationships to identify, shape and secure opportunities prior to formal procurement activities.
- Build and maintain a continually expanding network of asset owners, developers, retailers, network businesses, fleet operators, infrastructure investors and strategic partners.
- Generate a significant proportion of opportunities through direct relationship-based engagement and market influence rather than reactive tender participation.
What you bring to the role
We are seeking a highly connected business development professional with an established industry network and a demonstrated track record of originating and winning energy infrastructure opportunities through existing relationships. This is not a tender response role. Success will come from the ability to open doors, shape opportunities early and convert relationships into contracted revenue within 90 days.
To be successful, you will have:
- Proven business development experience within customer connections, HV infrastructure, electrical networks, utilities, ASP environments, contestable works or complex infrastructure services.
- Strong understanding of grid connections, DNSP/TNSP interfaces, network constraints and energisation processes.
- Experience working with substations, network augmentation, protection and control systems, contestable works or HV infrastructure.
- Strong negotiation, stakeholder engagement and pursuit leadership skills.
- The ability to translate technical complexity into compelling commercial solutions.
- Demonstrated ability to originate and secure opportunities through an existing network of decision-makers across asset owners, energy retailers, developers, network operators, EPC contractors, OEMs, consultants and major energy users.
- A well-established industry "black book" with proven access to executive, commercial and technical stakeholders capable of influencing project development and procurement outcomes.
- Evidence of personally creating and winning opportunities through existing relationships, rather than solely responding to publicly released tenders.
- Proven capability to open doors and establish senior-level customer relationships within the first 90 days of employment.
- Strong reputation and credibility within the Australian energy, infrastructure, storage, electrification or utility sectors.
- Demonstrated experience in HV infrastructure, grid connection, utility interfaces and power system projects from 11kV through to 132kV.
- Experience with Target Account Selling as well as Shipley, Holden Power Base Selling or similar sales methodologies.
