As the Senior Business Development Manager – BESS (Hunter) you'll be responsible for originating, qualifying and securing new business opportunities across:
- Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)
- Customer-side and mid-scale battery storage projects
- Commercial & Industrial energy solutions
- Resilience and backup power solutions
- Demand management and site capacity optimisation projects
- Battery-integrated energy infrastructure opportunities
- Related grid connections, HV infrastructure and EV charging opportunities where storage integration is critical
You'll work closely with customers, developers, consultants, EPC contractors, OEMs, retailers, aggregators and infrastructure owners to identify, shape and secure battery storage opportunities. These opportunities will span across standalone BESS, behind-the-meter storage solutions and solar-coupled BESS projects, helping customers improve resilience, optimise energy costs and unlock new revenue opportunities.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Lead, engage, negotiate and secure energy storage and electrification projects ranging from 1MW to 5MW+, including multi-site storage portfolios, grid connection infrastructure, customer-owned HV networks, bonus: EV charging depots and distributed energy solutions.
- Generate and develop new business opportunities across BESS and distributed energy markets.
- Coordinate internal stakeholders through solution development, pricing, governance and contract execution.
- Maintain a strong pipeline of opportunities and forecast accuracy through effective CRM management.
- Leverage existing industry relationships to identify, shape and secure opportunities prior to formal procurement activities.
- Build and maintain a continually expanding network of asset owners, developers, retailers, network businesses, fleet operators, infrastructure investors and strategic partners.
- Generate a significant proportion of opportunities through direct relationship-based engagement and market influence rather than reactive tender participation.
- Ensure successful transition from sales to delivery through clear scope definition and handover processes.
What you bring to the role
We are seeking a highly connected business development professional with an established industry network and a demonstrated track record of originating and winning energy infrastructure opportunities through existing relationships. This is not a tender response role. Success will come from the ability to open doors, shape opportunities early and convert relationships into contracted revenue within 90 days.
To be successful, you will have:
- Proven business development experience within BESS, distributed energy, renewable energy infrastructure, energy services, EPC environments or storage-integrated solutions.
- A successful track record winning BESS or battery-integrated infrastructure projects
- Strong understanding of BESS value drivers including resilience, demand management, firming, energy arbitrage, OEM selection, EMS/SCADA, safety and O&M.
- Strong negotiation, stakeholder engagement and pursuit leadership skills.
- The ability to translate technical energy solutions into compelling commercial outcomes
- Demonstrated ability to originate and secure opportunities through an existing network of decision-makers across asset owners, energy retailers, developers, network operators, EPC contractors, OEMs, consultants and major energy users.
- A well-established industry "black book" with proven access to executive, commercial and technical stakeholders capable of influencing project development and procurement outcomes.
- Evidence of personally creating and winning opportunities through existing relationships, rather than solely responding to publicly released tenders.
- Proven capability to open doors and establish senior-level customer relationships within the first 90 days of employment.
- Strong reputation and credibility within the Australian energy, infrastructure, storage, electrification or utility sectors.
- Demonstrated experience in HV infrastructure, grid connection, utility interfaces and power system projects.
- Experience with Target Account Selling as well as Shipley, Holden Power Base Selling or similar sales methodologies.
