Your new role
Are you a strategic thinker with a knack for financial modelling and problem-solving? As Strategy & Financial Associate, you will play a pivotal role in developing and driving the analytical insights that underpin critical business decisions. You will collaborate closely with the Senior Manager, Strategy and Planning and work alongside the broader Commercial Team to establish a data-driven, strategic, and commercially savvy culture throughout the business.This is an exciting opportunity to be at the heart of key strategic initiatives, influencing decision making processes across Distributed Services and PLUS ES and Ausgrid.
You will be responsible for developing data-driven strategic solutions and insights that directly inform key business decisions. You will lead analytical problem-solving initiatives, collaborating with key stakeholders to ensure alignment with the company’s broader strategy. A core aspect of the role is driving financial modelling, including NPV, IRR, and cashflow analysis, to support major projects and investment decisions.
You will also work closely with senior leadership and commercial teams to ensure that robust financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting processes are in place.
Additionally, you will be instrumental in preparing high-quality presentations and written documents, tailored to different audiences, while ensuring that best practices in project management are applied across initiatives to maintain focus on timelines, accuracy, and overall quality.

We are looking for someone with at least 4+ years of strategic problem solving experience in consulting, investment banking, infrastructure investment, or the energy sector, which includes production, distribution, or energy retailing. This experience should be backed by advanced analytical and Excel modelling skills, including proficiency in financial analysis techniques such as NPV, IRR, and cashflow forecasting. You will be comfortable applying structured problem solving methodologies and hypothesis-led thinking to address complex business challenges.
A Master’s in Finance, Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) certification, or other equivalent qualifications are highly desirable, as they will demonstrate your strong capabilities in financial modelling and evaluation. We are also looking for excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to craft high-impact presentations and clear, actionable reports for diverse audiences across the business.
In addition to these technical skills, we value a candidate with a keen attention to detail, self-motivation, and a strong drive to deliver accurate, high-quality work under tight deadlines. You should also possess proven stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build and nurture relationships and influence decision-making at all levels of the organisation. A collaborative mindset is essential, and you should have a proven track record of contributing to and inspiring high-performing teams. Finally, project management experience is key, with a focus on ensuring that initiatives are delivered on time and according to specification.
Experience or knowledge in electricity, smart meters, batteries, EV charging infrastructure, telecommunications, or other infrastructure is highly advantageous for this role, as it aligns with the scope of work in this sector.
