About Ausgrid – we’re wired for good

We’re the largest distributer of electricity on Australia’s east coast, which means over two million homes and businesses rely on our good work. We’re here at the heart of the energy transition, and we’re driven by a powerful purpose to make electricity accessible for all.

It’s an exciting new chapter for our company with each day bringing a renewed energy to how we deliver, store and use electricity. As we continue to grow, we’re in search of exceptional talent to help us achieve our goals.

Everyone’s job is important here. Our customers come from all walks of life, and so do we. We’re committed to fostering a diverse, respectful, and inclusive workplace, and encourage applications from all backgrounds.

See yourself working here

Are you passionate about spatial data, automation and building empowering data products? We are seeking a talented Spatial & Open Data Analyst to join our high performing team. In this role, you’ll be at the forefront of managing key spatial systems, streamlining data workflows and delivering standardised spatial products that support a range of business functions, regulatory needs and public transparency initiatives.

As a trusted advisor and technical lead, you’ll provide spatial expertise across a wide range of initiatives, conducting spatial analysis, extracting insights, and producing high-quality reports, presentations, and visualisations. Your work will directly inform operational, strategic, and regulatory decision making, helping shape how Ausgrid delivers essential energy services across the network.

You’ll also play a key role in developing and maintaining interactive mapping and spatial solutions, leveraging new technologies and platforms to meet evolving user needs. Collaboration is key, and you’ll facilitate external data sharing with a variety of stakeholders, ensuring open data accessibility and regulatory compliance. By creating repeatable and standardised spatial and non-spatial data products, you'll empower internal teams to self-serve through reusable models embedded in our enterprise data platforms.

This is a unique opportunity to be a technical leader in spatial analytics at one of Australia’s largest electricity networks. You’ll provide subject matter expertise and help shape the management of the Geospatial Data Domain, contributing to a more connected, efficient, and data-driven Ausgrid.

What you bring to the role

Our hiring decisions are not only based on your experience and skills, but your passion, attitude and alignment to our core values.

To succeed in this role, you’ll bring a combination of technical expertise, industry knowledge, and a collaborative mindset. You hold a tertiary qualification in GIS, Spatial Science, or a related discipline—or you’ve gained equivalent industry experience that demonstrates your deep understanding of the field.

You have hands-on experience working in the utilities or infrastructure sectors, with a strong grasp of network operations, asset management systems, and relevant industry standards. Your knowledge of spatial systems is backed by proven capability using platforms such as Smallworld GIS, QGIS (or other spatial platforms), Databricks and FME. An understanding of electrical networks or other utility systems will set you up for success.

You're skilled at evaluating and improving systems and processes, and you’re not afraid to challenge the status quo to find smarter ways of working. You bring a high level of proficiency with Microsoft productivity tools, and you’re known for your ability to analyse complex data, draw out meaningful insights, and present them clearly to a range of audiences.

Your written and verbal communication skills are strong, and you can explain complex spatial and technical information in a way that resonates with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. You thrive in a collaborative team environment, and you're comfortable juggling priorities in a fast-moving setting while maintaining attention to detail and quality outcomes.

Although not mandatory, candidates with the following skills and experience will be highly desired:

  • Ability to motivate, influence, manage and develop a team, with the ability to foster a positive and productive work environment and a culture of high performance.
  • Demonstrated presentation skills that clearly articulate spatial insights and enable the creation of visually compelling assets.
  • Mapping expertise (such as environmental, planning etc), empowering the accurate creation and effective dissemination of externally focused geospatial datasets.
  • Proficiency in SQL or related programming languages to extract, manipulate, and integrate spatial datasets, streamlining analysis and driving automation.
  • Understanding or financial experience in the SAP enterprise asset management system.

If you thrive in a fast-paced environment, love solving complex spatial challenges and want to make a meaningful impact through data, we encourage you to apply. Join us in powering communities and driving innovation through location intelligence.
