Your new role
We’re looking for a confident and collaborative leader to guide a team of Portfolio Managers and technical experts in planning and delivering work that keeps our communities connected.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Drive the planning, preparation, and project management of construction and maintenance activities across the Newcastle, Central Coast and Lower Hunter region.
- Lead a team of Portfolio Managers to forecast, plan, and schedule both planned and reactive work, making sure resources are used wisely and work is delivered on time.
- Work closely with delivery partners to benchmark performance, share insights, and improve processes for smarter, more sustainable operations.
- Contribute to a range of engineering functions including design, estimating, project management, and network performance reviews.
- Build strong relationships with clients, stakeholders, and the community, resolving concerns with empathy and professionalism.
- Monitor safety and delivery targets, identify gaps, and take action to keep performance on track. You’ll be accountable for quality, environment, and safety in line with Ausgrid’s policies.

- Degree or Advanced Diploma in Electrical Engineering supported by relevant and diverse experience
- A senior operational leader with extensive experience in field services with proven skills in leading and managing a large and multiskilled workforce. Team leadership including well developed and highly evident interpersonal and communication skills for discussion, collaboration and negotiation in order to lead with clear and concise direction and customer focus.
- Excellent understanding of the legislative and regulatory framework in which utility businesses operate including relevant industry regulations and the underpinning commercial models.
- Demonstrated commercial acumen to connect operational activities and planning to financial outcomes
- Sound knowledge of Network Standards, Engineering Policies and the Electrical Safety Rules, as well as practical knowledge of Work Health & Safety Act and relevant Environment legislation.
- Industrial relations experience at an operating level in a highly industrialised environment. Ability to assess a situation, seek multiple perspectives, gather more information if necessary, and identify key issues that need to be addressed to generate workable solutions and resolve complaints.
- Time management and prioritisation skills to assist in managing a wide range of issues concurrently while ensuring that resources are assigned to the areas with the greatest benefit.
- Demonstrated strategic, analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills.
- Demonstrated ability to drive ongoing business improvement relative to current business priorities with an end to end, organisational perspective.
