As we continue to invest in and transform our network, we're seeking an experienced Senior Legal Counsel to join a collaborative legal team with a strong and supportive culture.
This is an exciting opportunity for a commercially minded lawyer who enjoys managing a diverse portfolio of primarily property and real estate matters along with a mix of other commercial matters, partnering closely with stakeholders, and delivering pragmatic legal advice that enables business outcomes. You'll join a team of six legal professionals with a positive and inclusive culture, where expertise is valued and exercising judgment is encouraged. This role is a permanent full-time position and reports to our Group Counsel – Finance & Operations.
You will provide strategic and commercial legal support across a broad range of commercial transactions with a principal focus on property and real estate, helping the business navigate legal risk while supporting critical infrastructure and operational outcomes.
What you’ll be doing
- Providing commercially focused legal advice on a range of commercial matters, with a focus on property and real estate transactions.
- Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating legal agreements and transaction documentation.
- Managing multiple matters concurrently in a fast-paced environment.
- Supporting key stakeholders across the Property team and wider business.
- Identifying legal risks and providing practical solutions to mitigate those risks.
- Contributing to legal process improvements and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
- Working independently while building trusted relationships across the Property and broader business teams. This role will also see you engage and manage external legal counsel on more complex matters, ensuring quality outcomes and effective cost management.
What you bring to the role
Our hiring decisions are not only based on your experience and skills, but your passion, attitude, and alignment to our core values.
We're looking for an experienced lawyer who combines strong technical capability with commercial acumen and excellent stakeholder management skills.
- A Bachelor of Laws (LLB), Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent legal qualification.
- Admission to practice as an Australian lawyer.
- At least 6 years' post-admission experience (PAE).
- Demonstrated experience in property and real estate transactions.
- Experience managing a portfolio of complex matters and balancing competing priorities.
- Strong negotiation, communication, and relationship-building skills.
- The ability to work independently while partnering effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- A proactive, solutions-focused approach and sound commercial judgement.
We welcome applications from lawyers with experience gained through:
- Private practice/law firms
- In-house legal teams
- Property, infrastructure, utilities, construction, or related industries
If you are looking to transition in-house or further develop your in-house career within a purpose-driven organisation, we'd love to hear from you.
