As we continue to invest in and transform our network, we're seeking an experienced Senior Legal Counsel, to join a collaborative legal team with a strong and supportive culture. 

This is an exciting opportunity for a commercially minded lawyer who enjoys managing a diverso portfolio of general commercial matters, some IT and front-end construction contracts. You will partner closely with stakeholders and deliver pragmatic legal advice that enables business outcomes. You'll join a team of six legal professionals with a positive and inclusive culture, where expertise is valued and autonomy is encouraged. This role is a permanent full-time position and reports to our Group Counsel. 

You will provide strategic and commercial legal support across a general commercial agreements, master agreements, ICT and procurement. 

What you’ll be doing 

• Providing commercially focused legal advice on a range of general commercial agreements and contracts within the corporate portfolio. 
• Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating legal agreements and transaction documentation. 
• Managing multiple matters concurrently in a fast-paced environment. 
• Supporting key stakeholders across the wider business. 
• Identifying legal risks and providing practical solutions to mitigate those risks. 
• Managing and instructing external legal counsel on complex matters and monitoring delivery against budget. 
• Contributing to legal process improvements and knowledge-sharing initiatives. 
• Working independently while building trusted relationships across the key stakeholder groups and broader business teams. This role will also see you engage and manage external legal counsel on more complex matters, ensuring quality outcomes and effective cost management. 

What you bring to the role

We're looking for an experienced lawyer who combines strong technical capability with commercial acumen and excellent stakeholder management skills. 

• A Bachelor of Laws (LLB), Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent legal qualification. 
• Admission to practice as an Australian lawyer. 
• At least 6 years' post-admission experience (PAE). 
• Demonstrated experience in general commercial practice. ICT, energy and front-end construction experience will be highly desired.  
• Experience managing a portfolio of complex matters and balancing competing priorities. 
• Strong negotiation, communication, and relationship-building skills. 
• The ability to work independently while partnering effectively with diverse stakeholders. 
• A proactive, solutions-focused approach and sound commercial judgement.
