You will be joining a specialised and technical team based in our Sydney Haymarket office. Reporting to the Design Manager the Senior Engineer undertakes expert engineering and technical activities to support a safe, reliable, sustainable and affordable network for our customers.

 

This role requires a high level of technical design knowledge and experience for the efficient delivery of primary electrical designs for HV substation projects, with focus on electrical layout and equipment design.  You would be working as lead designer amongst a team of engineering disciplines on complex brownfield augmentations and greenfield developments, requiring switchyard and switch-house building design knowledge.

Key Responsibilities

  • Technical Leadership: Lead and undertake the conceptual and detailed design of primary HV substations (up to 132kV with indoor and outdoor switchgear), in compliance with regulatory requirements and Network Standards with safety as a priority.  Involves the production of busbar configurations, site and equipment layouts, plus AC light and power designs. Provide ongoing support to Ausgrid Project Managers and field staff during the construction and electrical equipment fit-out phases of substation projects. Preparing design scoping documents, technical specifications and engineering recommendations to meet project objectives.
  • Design Management: Drive design delivery from concept through to construction, managing timelines, budgets, and multidisciplinary interfaces (civil, secondary, structural).
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Represent primary engineering function in interactions with internal and external stakeholders. Initiate consultation with end-users of the substation and its design (e.g. operational staff, field technicians etc) to assist in the ongoing improvement of substation design outcomes.

Requirements

  • Education: Recognised bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and eligible for membership of Engineers Australia.
  • Experience: 10+ years of recent extensive experience in HV/EHV substation primary design brownfield / greenfield projects.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in the application of key industry standards (e.g. AS2067, AS3000, AS3008 etc) to designs of HV substations and equipment.
  • Accreditation: Professional Engineer status (e.g., CPEng or RPEQ) is advantageous.
  • Leadership: Proven track record of leading technical teams on large-scale infrastructure projects. Demonstrated ability to supervise and mentor junior staff.
  • Oral and Written Communication: Proficient and experienced in the use of clear, concise and effective English in both oral and written formats (eg presentations, emails, reports etc)
