At Ausgrid, we’re building intelligent, datadriven solutions that help power communities across NSW. We’re looking for a Senior Data Scientist to design, develop and deploy AI and advanced analytics solutions that directly support our business objectives and integrate seamlessly into our enterprise data landscape. You will be based at our Haymarket office and reporting to Manager of Data Services and Platforms.
This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys solving complex problems, working endtoend across the AI lifecycle, and partnering closely with the business to deliver real outcomes.
You’ll collaborate with stakeholders, testers and SMEs, translating business use cases into robust AI solutions that create measurable value.

Key responsibilities

AI & Analytics Development: Design, build, train and deploy ML and LLMbased models to address specific business use cases, integrating with existing systems and platforms.

MLOps & Deployment: Leverage Ausgrid’s data platform and established MLOps/LLMOps practices to operationalise models at scale.

Performance & Monitoring: Implement monitoring, alerting and costmanagement routines to assess model performance and reliability.

Data Modelling & Serving: Build Lakehousealigned data models (Bronze/Silver/Gold), optimising for performance, reliability and cost.

Security & Governance: Apply strong data security controls, encryption, secrets management and audit logging, in line with governance and regulatory requirements.

CI/CD & IaC: Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, version control and environment promotion using Azure DevOps/Git and infrastructureascode (Bicep).

Operations & Support: Monitor production jobs and SLAs, perform root cause analysis and work with support teams to resolve issues.

Collaboration & Documentation: Engage with stakeholders throughout delivery and produce clear technical documentation, runbooks and data dictionaries.

Essential experience and skills

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related discipline.

Strong software development experience using Python, Spark and SQL.

Proven experience working with Azure and largescale, cloudbased data workflows.

Solid database design and optimisation experience (e.g. PostgreSQL).

Working knowledge of machine learning workflows in Databricks.

Experience with automated unit and integration testing.

Familiarity with Agile delivery and MLOps practices.

Strong fullstack mindset with the ability to learn quickly and deliver scalable, high quality solutions.
