We’re looking for a Senior Data Engineer to play a key role in building, operating and continuously improving Ausgrid’s Enterprise Data Platform on Microsoft Azure. 

In this role, you’ll design and deliver scalable data pipelines and lakehouse solutions, support AI and MLOps capabilities, and ensure our data platform is secure, reliable and cost effective. You’ll work closely with architects, data scientists and business stakeholders to translate complex requirements into robust, production ready solutions. 

This is a hands on senior role with genuine influence over platform design, performance and operational excellence.  This is a permanent full- time position, located at Haymarket and reports to Manager Data Services & Platforms, you will join a collaborative culture with experienced data architecture and engineering peers. 

 

Key responsibilities  

  • Design, build and maintain batch and streaming data pipelines using Azure Data Factory and Databricks (PySpark/Spark SQL)  

  • Implement Lakehouse data models (Bronze/Silver/Gold) using Delta Lake  

  • Support and enable AI model deployment using established MLOps / LLMOps practices  

  • Monitor and optimise platform performance, reliability and cost  

  • Apply security, governance and data privacy controls across the Azure environment  

  • Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure as Code using Bicep and Azure DevOps  

  • Support production workloads, including participation in a rotating 24×7 oncall roster  

  • Partner with stakeholders to translate business needs into scalable technical solutions  

  • Produce highquality technical documentation, runbooks and data dictionaries 

 

What you’ll bring

Essential experience and skills  

  • Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems or similar  

  • Strong handson experience with Azure Data Factory, Databricks and Delta Lake  

  • Advanced SQL and Python / PySpark skills  

  • Experience working with AI models in an MLOps or similar environment  

  • Proven experience delivering solutions across the full development lifecycle  

  • Strong background supporting enterprise data platforms in production  

  • Experience with performance optimisation (partitioning, Zordering, caching, indexing)  

  • Knowledge of Azure security and governance (RBAC, Key Vault, network controls)  

  • Experience with DevOps practices, Git and CI/CD pipelines  

  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to translate requirements into technical designs  

  • Comfortable participating in oncall support and incident response
