As the Remote (UAV) Pilot, you’ll play a key role in inspecting and maintaining our electrical network using advanced UAV technology. You’ll work alongside experienced pilots and technical teams, capturing critical data that helps prevent outages and improves safety. Whether you're flying in remote areas or collaborating with field crews and stakeholders, your work will directly support the reliability of our energy infrastructure.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Act as a Remote Pilot in Command of multi-rotor drones under Ausgrid’s Remote Aircraft Operator’s Certificate (ReOC) under VLOS / EVLOS / BVLOS flight rules.
- Develop flight plans for assigned work using established procedures and work instructions.
- Apply all drone safety & operational procedures in daily operations under guidance of the Chief Remote Pilot and Senior Remote Pilot(s).
- Act in strict compliance with CASA regulations, Ausgrid Remote Operator’s Operations Manual, Ausgrid’s Drone Authorisations Procedure, Ausgrid’s Electrical Safety Rules and other organisational policies.
- Engage with internal and external stakeholders as required for operational delivery of drone tasks such as customers, contact centre staff and other operational field workers.
- Ability to operate autonomously to deliver accountabilities, including travel in remote areas.
Frequent travel will be required in this role. You'll regularly operate a company vehicle and travel across Ausgrid's network area in NSW. This will involve regular travel and working away from home on a routine basis.

To be successful, you will have:
- CASA certification to fly aircraft remotely up to 25 kg for commercial purposes.
- Experience in flying remote-controlled planes and/or drones.
- Knowledge of aviation industry procedures, protocols and other requirements for operation of remote aircraft in restricted airspace.
- Good oral and written communication skills with experience in communicating with internal and technical and non‐technical stakeholders.
- Have a minimum of 200 hours of logged drone hours
Desirable but not mandatory:
- Experience undertaking LiDAR and photogrammetry data capture using drones.
- Knowledge and experience in drone maintenance and repair.
- Knowledge of Ausgrid’s flight management and asset management systems including AVCRM and SAP.
