  • Reporting to the Field Supervisor, the Protection Technician will complete the maintenance and commissioning of protection, automation & control equipment within distribution, zone and sub-transmission substations and networks. This role is crucial in ensuring the safety, reliability, sustainability, and cost-effectiveness of our services for customers and the integrity of our network assets.
  • Responsibility may include being available and participate in on call and after-hours response.
  • This role has the potential to provide a pathway to the Protection Automation & Control roles within Ausgrid.

To be successful, you must have:

  • Qualification in a relevant electrical trade. (Cert III Electrotechnology or equivalent)
  • A Class C drivers’ licence.
  • A WH&S Work Cover – General Induction
  • Experience in analysing electrical drawings (schematic diagrams is desirable)
  • Ability to investigate and solve technical and practical problems
  • Sound computer skills for both office-based & industry-specific programs for testing, commissioning & interrogation of network assets.

Skills & Qualifications (Not essential but advantageous):

  • Experience in fault finding & problem solving
  • Knowledge of industrial electrical systems, including control systems, instrumentation and automation equipment. (PLC, instrumentation, SCADA or other operating systems)
  • Cert III, cert IV, Diploma or Advanced Diploma in relevant discipline (Power Systems, Industrial Electronics, Instrumentation etc)
  • Proven experience in HV (High Voltage) Switching.
  • ACMA Communications Cabling Licence
  • Experience with Permit to Work systems.
  • Demonstrated experience with a computerised maintenance management system.
