We’re currently hiring multiple Protection Technicians to support our growing operations across Ausgrid and our PLUS ES entity, contributing to exciting work in the newly approved Renewable Energy Zone in the Upper Hunter.

 

Reporting to the Field Supervisor, you’ll be responsible for the maintenance and commissioning of protection, automation and control equipment across distribution, zone, and sub-transmission substations. You’ll play a key role in ensuring the safety, reliability, and sustainability of our network and services.

 

Advanced Technicians will support our Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) operations. These roles work closely with the BESS Operations and Engineering Manager, performing Level 2 maintenance, technical checks and on-call fault response. You’ll be part of a team setting the technical and safety standards for BESS operations, contributing to the future of energy storage and grid stability.

 

These roles offer a pathway to advanced Protection Automation & Control positions within Ausgrid, and the opportunity to work on cutting-edge technology in a rapidly evolving industry.

 

You may also be required to participate in on-call and after-hours response as part of your responsibilities.

To be eligible to apply, you will have:

  • Cert III Electrotechnology or equivalent trade qualification
  • Class C driver’s licence
  • General Construction Induction (White Card)
  • Experience whilst under instruction in carrying out Commissioning of Protection systems with High impact to Network, Customers & Safety and being typically associated with the Sub-transmission Network. E.g. Complex Zone and STS (high MVA, interconnected/remote ended, complex CBD)
  • Ability to interpret electrical drawings and schematic diagrams
  • Strong computer literacy, including testing, commissioning, and network interrogation tools

 

Highly regarded skills:

  • Experience in fault finding and problem solving
  • Knowledge of industrial electrical systems, including PLCs, instrumentation, SCADA, or automation
  • Electrical Safety Rules accreditation and other relevant statutory training
  • Additional qualifications such as Cert IV, Diploma, or Advanced Diploma in Power Systems, Industrial Electronics, or Instrumentation
  • Proven HV Switching experience and familiarity with Permit to Work systems
  • Experience using computerised maintenance management systems (CMMS)
