Reporting to the Head of Major Projects, the Project Director plays a critical leadership role in delivering some of our most significant infrastructure projects and capital programs. You will be responsible for the end-to-end delivery of major projects, guiding them from development and pre-construction through to execution, commissioning and post-implementation review.

 

Leading large, multidisciplinary teams, you will bring together engineering, project management, civil and electrical construction, and commercial expertise to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently and to the highest standards. With accountability for major capital investments, you will balance safety, environmental, financial, schedule and quality outcomes while navigating competing priorities and complex stakeholder requirements.

 

As a senior leader, you will work closely with Executive leadership, Boards, customers, stakeholders, regulators and delivery partners to build strong relationships and drive successful project outcomes. You will also play a key role in shaping future opportunities through market engagement, contract strategy, bid development and commercial oversight, with responsibility for risk management, contract performance and financial outcomes.

  • Leading the successful delivery of major capital projects and programs from concept through to completion.
  • Providing strategic leadership across project development, engineering, construction and contract management activities.
  • Driving a strong safety culture by ensuring robust safety, risk and environmental management practices are embedded across all projects.
  • Managing commercial and contractual performance, including procurement processes, service agreements, contract negotiations and supplier relationships.
  • Optimising project resources, budgets, schedules and construction activities to achieve project objectives.
  • Building and maintaining trusted relationships with customers, key stakeholders, community, regulators, contractors, consultants and internal stakeholders.
  • Leading and developing high-performing project teams, including mentoring and coaching Project Managers and emerging leaders.
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, standards, governance requirements and organisational policies.
  • Promoting innovation, continuous improvement and the adoption of leading project delivery practices, systems and technologies.
  • Providing executive-level reporting and strategic advice to support informed decision-making and long-term business outcomes.

 

 

What you bring to the role

 

The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills and project management expertise, with a proven track record in delivering capital projects/programs, preferably within the electricity industry.

  • Tertiary qualifications in engineering or relevant degree discipline with eligibility for membership status of Engineers Australia or similar.
  • Post graduate qualification in project or contract management, engineering or administration desirable.
  • Extensive experience and ability to apply a diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices as applied to substation engineering, design, operation and maintenance, including underground cable and overhead line knowledge.
  • Experience in the end-to-end project and contract management of major capital projects and programs.
  • Demonstrated capacity to successfully manage broad responsibilities and complex issues across an organisation.
  • Demonstrated experience in human resource supply and demand analysis.
  • Superior communication and interpersonal skills to align resources across the organisation to achieve business goals.
  • Demonstrated leadership to develop, mentor and manage individual/team performance.
  • Demonstrated experience in establishing and managing contracts.
  • Demonstrated experience in creating/developing new work groups to deliver organisational change to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
