See yourself working here
Step into a key safety leadership role where you’ll lead a centre of excellence that helps our people deliver good work from the get‑go; safely, consistently and confidently - every job, every time.

Working at the forefront of the energy transition, you’ll have a unique opportunity to directly contribute to major infrastructure programs including the HCC REZ, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and brownfield infrastructure programs. You’ll shape and influence safety programs across the full lifecycle of our network, ensuring safety is embedded into how work is planned, designed and delivered, not added on afterwards.

You’ll provide strategic and operational leadership and ensure all frameworks, controls and practices align with legislation, best practice and Ausgrid’s commitment to being a safety‑first organisation where safety is part of the good work we do every day.

Leading a team of experts and partnering across Ausgrid, you’ll play a pivotal role in embedding a strong, practical and people‑focused safety culture that supports the safe delivery of our future energy system.

  • Ensure alignment with Ausgrid’s Safety Management System, legislation, regulations, licence conditions and industry best practice.
  • Partner with employees, leaders, contractors and regulators to ensure consistent application of safety policies, processes and expectations.
  • Build strong, trust‑based relationships with internal and external stakeholders to drive an integrated and practical approach to safety.
  • Implement measures to monitor and continuously improve the effectiveness of safety programs.
  • Champion innovation and uplift across safety systems, practices and tools.
  • Lead, coach and develop a highly engaged and adaptable team of subject matter experts, modelling a safety‑first mindset in every decision.
  • Contribute to organisation‑wide strategies, policies and frameworks to embed safety into every aspect of how we work.

What you bring to the role
Our hiring decisions are not only based on your experience and skills, but your passion, attitude, and alignment to our core values.

To be successful, you will have the following skills & experience:

  • Extensive experience in field-based operational health and safety within the energy/electricity sector
  • Proven track record in developing, implementing and monitoring operational health and safety programs
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of field based work practices and systems
  • In depth knowledge and understanding of critical risk management frameworks
  • Experience leading, coaching and managing a team through transformational change
  • Outstanding negotiation and influencing skills and the proven ability to manage complex and difficult issues across a diverse business
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify key issues, seek multiple perspectives and recommend innovative solutions.
  • Excellent communication skills at all levels of the organisation from frontline employees to executive level managers
