Your New Role

As the Health & Safety Assurance Specialist, you will provide expert guidance and advice to support the development, implementation, and ongoing enhancement of the organisation’s health and safety management system, strategy, and assurance activities. You will have an essential role in ensuring a culture of safety and compliance across all areas of the organisation and collaborate with teams across various work locations within Ausgrid.

 

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Design, implement, and deliver Ausgrid’s Health and Safety Assurance Plan.
  • Design and develop Health and Safety Assurance tools, forms, and templates.
  • Lead the delivery of second line of defence assurance activities as defined in the Assurance Plan.
  • Oversee timely delivery of outputs from assurance activities within program of projects.
  • Conduct field-based observation reviews to drive continuous improvement in the Health and Safety Management System (HSMS) and related systems.
  • Assist in maintaining the Organisation’s HSMS and associated systems, providing assurance over the HSMS, including strategic and systematic reviews.
  • Support the implementation of HSMS policies, procedures, standards, tools, and materials.
  • Keep up to date with Organisational and industry changes to ensure the HSMS is responsive including supporting HSMS updates and delivering change management, communication and education.
  • Coaching, mentoring and developing our people in the requirements of the HSMS, Health and Safety Strategy and associated Projects and Programs.
  • Assist in maintaining the Organisation’s Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal reporting requirements and any reporting obligations to SafeWork NSW.

 

To be successful, you will have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Health and Safety, Risk Management, Engineering, Project Management/coordination or related area or equivalent experience.
  • Extensive experience in Workplace Health and Safety within medium to large organisations, particularly in high-risk industries.
  • Significant experience in delivering safety assurance plans for complex organisations, including relevant qualifications in conducting assurance activities (e.g., auditing certifications).
  • Strong expertise in designing, implementing, and continuously enhancing Health and Safety management systems.
  • In-depth knowledge of the Three Lines of Defence model in safety assurance activities and experience in applying this framework.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a positive, proactive attitude, demonstrating a natural ability to work collaboratively within teams. A genuine passion for health and safety, coupled with a commitment to fostering a supportive and inclusive work environment.
