About the role
Reporting to the Senior Manager, you will be responsible for a comprehensive range of tasks that involve general month end, financial control activities, statutory reporting activities and activities across Ausgrid’s different entities. Your role will include providing technical support to the Financial Control team and the broader finance group on accounting-related matters. You will also support the team to ensure that all financial reporting obligations are met and that reports are prepared in compliance with accounting standards, as well as any other relevant reporting requirements specific to the organisation.
You will be involved in preparing accurate and timely monthly financial reports and half-year, annual financial statements. This will involve thorough data collection and analysis, as well as summarising key data, information, and trends to create insightful commentary. Additionally, you will support the delivery of accurate and timely data entry and reporting across several areas, including fixed asset accounting, network revenue, Regulatory Information Notice (RIN) reporting, and other general ledger functions as required.
This is an excellent opportunity for a first mover from Big 4 to gain broad industry accounting and financial reporting experience within a large, complex corporate environment. This is a 12-month fixed term opportunity based at our Haymarket office.
What you’ll be doing
- Prepare and perform month-end accounting activities, including journals, accruals, provisions, intercompany transactions and other accounting adjustments to support accurate and timely financial reporting..
- Responsible for the accounting and reporting of intercompany transactions, including reconciliations, elimination entries, and consolidation processes, ensuring accurate and timely group financial reporting and compliance with accounting standards and internal controls.
- Perform allocated general ledger reconciliations, investigating variances and ensuring accounting records are complete, accurate and supported.
- Partner with Finance and operational stakeholders to ensure transactions are appropriately recorded and financial impacts are accurately reflected in reporting outcomes.
- Analyse financial results and provide meaningful commentary on key movements, trends and variances against budget, forecast and prior periods.
- Streamline and simplify processes to improve the efficiency of financial accounting processes including the month end processes to enable the provision of half yearly and annual financial statements in an accurate and timely manner.

The successful candidate will have solid understanding of relevant compliance issues, including statutory, regulatory, and tax reporting requirements. A strong working knowledge of Accounting Standards, corporate finance principles, and procedures and effective interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills are crucial for success in this role.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance/Business, Commerce or related field.
- Qualified CPA/ CA and a minimum of 3–5-year post qualification, commercial experience in financial accounting and reporting, preferably gained within a Big 4, mid-tier accounting firm or large corporate environment.
- Strong knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards, financial reporting principles and accounting controls.
- Experience preparing statutory financial statements using ONESOURCE Statutory Reporting (OSR) or a similar reporting platform is highly regarded.
- Experience in using SAP, reporting systems and Microsoft Office including advanced Excel skills.
- Financial accounting expertise in the Energy industry and proficiency in reporting tools like TM1 and/or SAP BI, will advantageous.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Effective communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build collaborative relationships across Finance and the broader business.
- Ability to work autonomously, manage competing priorities and deliver quality outcomes within tight reporting deadlines.
