Your new role

The Operations and Maintenance Engineering Officer – BESS role is essential to the continued success of Ausgrid’s Community Battery and BESS programs. You will play a key role in the ongoing support, maintenance, and operational readiness of BESS assets across multiple Ausgrid BESS programs, including the 5MW Community Battery sites. This role will be pivotal in shaping and implementing long-term asset management strategies, maintenance practices, and engineering support for a growing fleet of energy storage systems, while mentoring field teams and supporting external commercial clients.

As the Operations and Maintenance Engineering Officer – BESS, you will work closely with the Engineering & Operations Manager to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient ongoing operation of BESS assets. You will take the lead on technical field support, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of maintenance procedures and systems.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the technical response to operational issues and maintenance activities across the BESS fleet.
  • Collaborating with engineering, asset performance, delivery, and vendor teams to ensure high availability and reliability of BESS sites.
  • Developing and refining O&M work practices, templates, maintenance schedules, and fault response protocols to ensure consistent outcomes.
  • Monitoring and reporting on operational KPIs, site availability, and defect trends to drive program performance and insights.
  • Providing mentoring and technical support to field technicians and operational staff.
  • Supporting the long-term optimisation of Ausgrid’s Community Battery, grid-scale, and commercial BESS portfolios.
