The Ausgrid Electrical Safety Rules define the minimum controls required to manage the electrical risks associated with working on, near, or in the vicinity of the Ausgrid electricity supply network.

 

Electrical Safety Specialists within Ausgrid work as part of the Electrical Safety team to develop, communicate, and provide advice on the application of, the Ausgrid Electrical Safety Rules and associated procedures, training, and safety equipment.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Participate in the development and communication of the Electrical Safety Rules, including provision of subject matter expert advice, answering questions about the Rules and associated procedures.
  • Promote the Electrical Safety Rules at work sites, in conjunction with the development and adherence to a safety interaction/compliance audit plan.
  • Provide assistance in the investigation and analysis of electrical safety related incidents, research options for the development of appropriate corrective and preventative actions and identify required changes to the Electrical Safety Rules and/or associated documents.
  • Contribute and manage policies, procedures and reporting systems.
  • Maintain industry knowledge of legislation and regulatory changes that will impact on work activities and provide reports with recommendations for implementation to meet the changes.
  • Manage the analytical research, development and implementation of quality improvements relating to work policies and procedures consistent with industry best practice and legislative requirements.
  • Strategically assist internal and external stakeholders in the identification and possible application of new technology and resources.
  • Conduct worksite audits to ensure compliance with authorities, regulations and policies.
  • Implement and maintain the consultation process to identify and address electrical safety related concerns or improvement opportunities raised by stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to develop Electrical Safety related training outcome requirements and to monitor and report on worker authorisations, training, audits and areas for improvement.
  • Lead a small team of Technical Support Officers.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as may be directed by your manager, in line with the Work level standards for this role.

Essential Qualifications

  • Certificate 3 in Electrotechnology (electrician), Advanced Diploma of Engineering, Electrical Engineering Degree or equivalent qualification.

 

Essential Criteria

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Project management including: and scheduling skills, delivering projects to quality, time and budget performance indicators.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in the electricity supply industry, high/ low voltage underground, substations and overhead networks.
  • Hold current competency in the orgnisations’s Electrical Safety Rules training.
  • Technical knowledge and experience of standards, codes of practices, guidelines and safe work practices as they relate to the accreditation and/or authorisations required for employees, contractors, ASPs and external parties to carry out work on or near the network.
  • Knowledge of laws and their regulations relevant to the operation of an electricity distribution utility.
  • Extensive knowledge of the organisations’s network, technical and other standards relevant to operating and work on or near the network.
  • Experience in safety incident investigations.
  • Intermediate computer literacy.
  • Strong organisation, prioritisation and time management skills.
  • Established interpersonal skills and experience in dealing with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Recognised analytical, problem solving and decision making skills.
  • Highly evident communication skills both written and oral with a customer focus for service delivery.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both as part of a team and independently.
  • Proven high attention to detail, personal initiative and accuracy in data entry.
  • Ability to exercise a high level of confidentiality and discretion when dealing with sensitive or personal matters.

 

Desired Criteria

  • Certificate IV Training and Assessment.
  • Qualifications in Work Health and Safety or Auditing.
  • Class C (1A) motor vehicle Driver’s License.
