As the Design Engineer/Engineering Officer, you will prepare and coordinate multi‐discipline design packages for complex network related projects within the Distribution Design Portfolio. Utilising specialised design software, you will undertake engineering design activities to support and optimise the performance and reliability of the organisation’s network. This role will see you provide technical or design advice/expertise to stakeholders, including coaching and mentoring across functions and contributing to the development of other employees.

 

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Scope, develop and undertake detailed electrical design on the 11kV / 415V Distribution System, to ensure they meet time, cost, and quality constraints in compliance with relevant standards and safety requirements.
  • Undertake site inspections to confirm detailed project scope.
  • Working closely with field leadership teams and employees to enable the effective planning and allocation of resources and undertake the planning of labour, plant, equipment, materials and contracted services to enable schedule delivery.
  • Liaising with a variety of internal and external stakeholders, including customers is critical in this role to ensure safe and effective execution of work and appropriate service delivery outcomes.
  • Investigate and resolve/coordinate the resolution of complaints involving customers, councils or other external bodies effectively and undertake data analysis, assessment, calculations and reporting to support project and operational activities.
  • Interpret and apply engineering or technical related documents such as policies, standards and legislation and undertake relevant risk assessment, audits and inspections.
  • Prepare relevant documentation such as development of scopes, estimates, reports, programs and processes.
  • Manage financial and commercial elements of programs, projects or work activities in line with relevant strategies, budgets or other metrics.
  • Utilise relevant systems and databases in engineering or technical related activities, including appropriately managing asset and network data and information.
  • Effectively plan, review and authorise work to enable safe and efficient completion by field or other employees.
  • Undertake planning of labour, plant, equipment, materials and contracted services to enable schedule delivery.
  • Investigate and resolve or coordinate the resolution of complaints involving customers, councils or other external bodies.
  • Undertake data analysis, assessment, calculations or reporting to support project or operational activities and ensure compliance with relevant standards, codes and legislation.
  • Provide technical or procedural advice or expertise to stakeholders, including coaching and mentoring across functions and contributing to the development of other employees
  • Utilise specialised design software and provide support and / or guidance to less experienced employees
  • Coordinate multi‐discipline design including that of employees in lower bands.
  • Undertake relevant audits and inspections, and check and/or complete compliance based documentation.
  • Perform engineering related or technical investigations and analyse, report on, communicate or implement outcomes or recommendations.
  • Undertake risk assessments to support engineering or operational decision making.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as may be directed by your Manager, in line with the Work Level Standards for this role

Essential qualifications for Engineering Officer

  • Advanced Diploma in an electrical or relevant engineering discipline (or equivalent).
  • Class C Drivers Licence.

 

Essential qualifications for Engineer

  • Degree in an electrical or relevant engineering discipline (or equivalent).
  • Class C Drivers Licence.

 

Essential criteria

  • Proven significant experience and technical expertise gained in a relevant trade; or experience in an engineering related or technical role; within the electricity distribution or relevant industry.
  • Sound knowledge of relevant statutes, regulations and procedures such as safe working practices, network standards and codes of practice.
  • Demonstrated experience in undertaking or managing multiple tasks and / or projects and prioritising activities.
  • Demonstrated experience in the 11kV & 415V Distribution System including Street Lighting.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Highly developed interpersonal and negotiation skills.
  • Demonstrated experience working within a team environment to effectively deliver projects or work outcomes within appropriate time frames and costs.
  • Demonstrated experience liaising with a variety of stakeholders, including the resolution of complex complaints / issues.
  • Experience in monitoring costs and financial impacts across work activities, projects or programs of work.
  • Advanced computer skills with experience in a variety of software packages, tools, hardware or general applications.
  • Demonstrated experience in the preparation of both written and system based project / work activity documentation.
  • Experience in the analysis.
  • Proven experience in problem solving and the identification or implementation of solutions

 

Desirable

  • Electrical Safety Rules accreditation.
  • Demonstrated experience in the management of projects or programs or elements of these.
  • Demonstrated experience in the planning, coordinating or supervising of work activities and / or resources.
  • Demonstrated experience in the use of CAD or other design related software.
  • Experience in the application of design and other relevant engineering related principles.
  • Experience in investigating and advising on the rectification of supply system faults.
  • Demonstrated experience contributing to the planning for restoration network breakdowns or incidents
