As part of our purpose of making electricity accessible for all, Ausgrid is on an exciting, renewables transformation journey and now is the time to be a part of something big! We are proud to service Australia’s east coast, as a leading business in energy distribution, delivering a safe and reliable electricity supply to more than 1.8 million homes – that’s over four million Australians relying on us every day.

Our vision is simple; for our communities to have the power in a resilient, affordable and sustainable future.

We take pride in knowing that the work we collectively achieve today, will transform the world tomorrow. We value a culture of working and living safely, being customer focussed, commercially minded, collaborative, honest, accountable, and respectful. Our values are not just initiatives driven by leaders; they define the way we work.

Your new role

At Ausgrid, we’re at the forefront of Australia’s energy transition, enabling a smarter, more sustainable grid. As we rapidly scale up our Distributed Energy Storage capabilities, we’re looking for a Commercial Contracts Manager to lead strategic contract negotiations and unlock commercial value across our growing battery storage portfolio.

As the Commercial Contracts Manager, you will be the driving force behind the commercial and contractual success of our battery and energy storage projects. You'll lead end-to-end contract negotiation and management, from procurement through to long-term operational partnerships – playing a key role in shaping the future of distributed energy in NSW.

Key responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

  • Lead high-value contract negotiations across revenue offtake (battery capacity/physical tolling agreements), battery and balance-of-plant procurement, construction and O&M/IT/Asset Management services.
  • Collaborate across legal, engineering, and procurement teams to develop robust, future-ready agreements that support commercial innovation.
  • Develop and administer agreements with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring alignment with project and operational goals.
  • Oversee contract lifecycle management – from execution to performance monitoring, variations and risk mitigation.
  • Build and manage strong relationships with key suppliers, OEMs, and energy offtakers – support the team in consistent contract administration (incl. delay/performance LD, purchase orders, invoices, etc.).
  • Champion commercial and regulatory best practices – keeping pace with NEM and AEMO market developments, global supply chain trends, and compliance frameworks (including the SOCI Act).
  • Deliver clear, actionable insights into contract performance, financial risks, and strategic opportunities – supporting executive and board-level decision-making.
  • Inspire and lead a high-performing team, fostering a collaborative and agile work culture.

Spark our interest!

Our hiring decisions are not only based on your experience and skills, but your passion, attitude, and alignment to our core values.

We’re looking for a strategic thinker and confident communicator who thrives at the intersection of commercial strategy, stakeholder engagement, and complex project delivery/operations. You’ll bring a strong sense of commercial acumen and the ability to translate business needs into sound, practical, and contractually robust outcomes. With a growth mindset and a willingness to learn quickly, you’ll be ready to take on the challenges of an evolving energy market.

You have demonstrated experience in developing, negotiating, and successfully executing complex commercial contracts, showing a clear ability to manage risk while securing favourable outcomes for the business. Your strength in negotiation, contract management, and supplier or customer relationship management enables you to drive value and build long-term, productive partnerships.

Your commercial decision-making is backed by strong governance and a deep understanding of approval processes. You are highly organised, with excellent prioritisation and time management skills that allow you to juggle multiple commercial projects effectively. You communicate with clarity and confidence, and your ability to influence internal and external stakeholders, particularly at a senior level, sets you apart.

A high attention to detail, personal initiative, and a commitment to accuracy underpin everything you do. You exercise discretion and sound judgment when dealing with sensitive commercial matters, and you operate with integrity and professionalism in high-stakes environments.

To be successful, you will have the following skills & experience:

·       Tertiary degree in Law, Business, Finance, Engineering or a similar discipline

·       Extensive experience in commercial contract management within the infrastructure or energy/renewables space

·       Experience in the electricity industry, including an understanding of Australian Energy Regulation, energy retail contracts, Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), or the delivery and construction of battery, renewable, or large-scale infrastructure projects, (desirable – though not essential)
