At Ausgrid, our Bright Spark Apprentice Program is focused on attracting, developing and retaining a diverse pipeline of talent. As an Apprentice Development Officer, you’ll play a key role in supporting, coaching and developing our Cable Jointer apprentices, ensuring they build the skills, confidence and safety mindset needed to thrive in the field.
This is a hands-on role where you’ll act as a trusted coach, mentor and technical expert, partnering closely with apprentices, leaders and training teams to deliver exceptional development outcomes. At Ausgrid, we believe good work starts with working safely, and you’ll be instrumental in embedding our safety culture while helping apprentices grow into highly capable tradespeople.
- Coach, mentor and support apprentices through their technical and professional development journey.
- Act as a field subject matter expert, providing guidance to apprentices and supporting supervisors to build apprentice capability.
- Design, deliver and continuously improve apprentice development programs, including the Field Fundamentals Program and Live Work Verification of Competency training.
- Monitor apprentice competency, skill progression and workplace performance through regular capability and safety assurance check-ins.
- Identify training needs and develop learning solutions for apprentices and tradespeople supervising apprentices.
- Maintain training records, assessments and workplace evidence in approved systems.
- Partner with Training Delivery teams to ensure compliance with governance, statutory and apprenticeship requirements.
- Support apprentice attraction and recruitment activities to help grow Ausgrid’s future workforce.
What you bring to the role

- Extensive trade experience in Power Distribution industry as a Cable Jointer.
- Proven technical training design and delivery or apprenticeship background or early careers and/or Vocational Education and Training sector.
- Excellent communication skills, you’re a natural leader who coaches others.
- Passion for mentorship and skill-building.
- Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (or willing to obtain)
- Demonstrated experience in verification of competency and on-the-job training and assessment.
- Established interpersonal and influencing skills in dealing with a variety of stakeholder groups.
